Our Aim
Our Aim
Tergar Retreats aims to encourage and support sustainable, skillfully-guided meditation retreats around the world. We work within the Tergar lineage, using the Joy of Living and Path of Liberation materials, under the guidance of Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche.
For the first five years of our activities, our primary focus is to
- Host a 3-year retreat in Portugal
- Create a retreat center in Portugal as the home for Tergar Retreats
- Run numerous retreats of varying lengths, making them financially accessible while establishing thorough standards for quality of guidance and care
- Begin creating a network of affiliated retreat places around the world
A Buddhist Organization Teaching in a Secular Way
You don’t have to be Buddhist to meditate or to get a lifetime of benefit from meditation practice.
Tergar’s Joy of Living curriculum has been carefully crafted to offer authentic instruction for a broad audience, allowing everyone to learn meditation and apply it in everyday life regardless of their faith background.
This curriculum has been used by thousands of people around the world and has been adapted for use in schools, in therapeutic settings and even incorporated into the methodology of peer reviewed research studies. It’s available online as a self-directed learning program and also taught in person through our worldwide network of communities and practice groups.
Tergar is a Buddhist organization based in the Tibetan Tradition. Many of our courses and retreats are explicitly secular. Other courses and retreats are undeniably Buddhist.
